Welcome Christmas Into Your Heart

The Christmas Season has begun and I am going to be posting several Christmas cards from my card classes and camps. Susan Smith is my upline StampinUp demonstrator and gets the credit for this awesome card design. I love the music notes wheel, and the use of the ornament punch is great. Two different greens used here, Certainly Celery and Old Olive.

This cards really represents the spirit of the season, family, love, and being together.

Isn't this card awesome? All StampinUp products were used in the creation of the card. The card base is Early Espresso as is the watermark background. The leaf images come from Stampin Up's Autumn Splendor stamp set and is stamped with Early Espresso and Versamark, then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I used a brayer for the multi-colored decorative image portion of the card by using glossy white paper with Always Artichoke, Cherry Cobbler, and More Mustard. After braying the decorative background, I wiped off the image to ensure the leaves were clear and crisp. A corner round was used on the right side of all the layers. The stamped image was layered on Cherry Cobbler card stock, added a cute little brad the pop the image and adhere a small piece of the Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding ribbon in the new Holiday Mini.

Just a little blurb about the Seam Binding Ribbon....if you are ribbon challenged like me, this ribbon was made for you!!! It is very light and flexible, easy to maneuver, tie, loop, etc. It comes in three colors, Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla, and Always Artichoke. It is currently available in the Holiday Mini which expires on January 2, 2011, get it while you can, it is the bomb!

Flower Pot Note card

This cute little flower pot comes from the ladies at Pair-A-Dox...thanks for sharing. I think it is adorable. Instructions and dimensions are included because this just had to be shared.

About the flowers....they were created using Spellbinders Shapeabilites Daisy Heads, just used the smallest flower. I love the detail "veins" in the flowers.

About the leaves....easy peasy and too cool. They are hand created, notice the veins and the alternate ripples? To make, just take a 2 X 11 piece of green cardstock and fold long long ways, crimp, cut out leaves, unfold. Awesome end result, minimal work.

About the paper....this is SU's retired Parisian Summer paper. If you have some, you are a head of the game, it is very hard to find. The solid cardstock is Stampin Up. I have found the SU TeaParty paper looks good with this card.

About the ribbon, brown and pink and coordinates perfectly with the paper, costs $3.99 a spool at Michaels.

Love is in the Air

I made this anniversary card for a friend to give to his wife for their first anniversary. I like the shimmer and softness of the card.

The CS is a gold and chocolate shimmery Bazzil paper. The bird image is from "Our Daily Bread" designs and is called "Sing Unto the Lord". The "Love You" image is from StampinUp. The DP is from last year and I don't recall the company name. Ribbon is a brown sheer ribbon from a local craft store, the brad is a beautiful pink and bronze butterfly.

The inside sentiment says "To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides". Not to mushy but very sweet.

Tea Bag or Candy Holder

I have been busy playing with this teabag holder template I found on Splitcoast. Fun Fun!

While it is a great tea bag holder, I find I prefer to fill them with Ghirardelli chocolates. I just know you are saying "Well of course". I used a variety of papers, this is a great way to use your scrap papers, of which I have an abundance. This is the case with all of the items shown here except for the layered large flower, it is SU's Tea Party designer paper and I just had to use it on at least on of the holders.

Birthday Card with Coordinating Box and Gift Card Holder

Happy Birthday Jennifer!!!!

She won't see this post however, this is her birthday assemble, it is a card, matching box (Dawn on YouTube again), and gift card holder.

The card stock is SU's Lovely Lilac, the designer paper is from Creative Imaginations and is double sided. No name on the paper, unless it is "Renae's House". There was a lot of paper cutting involved in this project. The flowers are embellished with glitter pens and gems for the bling I love so dearly.

Masculine Birthday Card and Coordinating Gift Card Holder

Hello again! It has been a while and I'm sorry about that, however, the yard has been a life sucking force for the last several weeks. You know, raking, digging, pulling, planting, hoeing, once done, the cycle starts again. Our yard is beautiful, but man it is a lot of work. Also, we have had several happenings in the family, husband returning from overseas and several birthdays.

So, I have been creating, just not posting much.

The photo I'm sharing now was inspired by a card that was created by pair-a-dox creations. Kudos ladies, this is a great man card. The smaller card is actually a coordinating gift card holder. I found the template for the gift card holder from Dawn on YouTube. The colors for both projects are SU's River Rock and Baja Breeze. The stamp set us SU's Nature Silhouettes. On the card I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder for the background.

For the gift card holder..to create do the following:

cut card stock 4 1/4 X 11

Score at 3, 5 1/2, and 8

Fold score lines accordion style

Tape the two center folds together using tacky tape

Use the SU Word Window punch to create a straight line within the center fold.

Use a 1/2 inch circle punch to create an indentation that allows easy grasp of the gift card.

Decorate.

You can add a belly band if preferred over the ribbon, cut it at 1 X 7 1/2.

Flower Fairies

I found this stamp at Michael's on clearance and thought I could make a pretty card for my grand daughter. I colored the image with colored pencils but think it would have come out much better with water colors. With that said, it took a long time to color, so when I have a chance I'll take another crack at it.

This image provides a great opportunity to practice blending, which I think looks pretty good.

The stamp comes from Stamps Happen, Inc. and is made in the good old USA!!!! It is called "Flower Fairies".

Chicks...lots of em!

Recently my friend Linda and I went antique shopping. While at a new antique mall I stumbled upon a booth with paper crafting items, it was glorious. I purchased several cards (want to support the craft and add to my ideas). Also, I found a card rack that was in excellent condition and only cost $25.00. I was sooo excited.

I thought these little chicks were cute and showed this card to my card pal, she knew exactly where they can be purchased. So, of course I did.

If you would like to know.....

They came from the Denami Online Store. I forgot to pick up a business card while at the shop, so I don't know the name of the card creator, but I do know the back of the card is stamped with "Sweet Cheeks".

Saturday Evening Post - Bird Watching

This is a Father's Day card I just created.
I know Mother's Day hasn't arrived yet but I thought I better get the jump on Father's Day because my masculine stamp line is limited and I find man cards to be a bit of a challenge.

This cards doesn't exactly please me...for one thing, it looks like it would be better suited for fall. Another issue, it really needs a little pop, or bling, or something. Don't get me wrong, it is OK but this stamp is so cool, I would think I could create a better card. So if anyone is reading this and has suggestions on how I can use this stamp and create a GREAT Father's Day card...I am listening. In the meantime, I'm going back to the drawing board to see if I can improve this one.

The stamp was purchased from Cornish Heritage Farms and is called "Bird Watching". It was stamped with SU's chocolate chip and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. The paper came from a scrap heap I had on my desk. The ribbon is a sheer brown that I dearly love and I used SUs Aged Copper embellishments.

Just thinking ahead...now I better get working on a Mother's Day card.

Sunflowers and Roses

For those of us that like to create cards...I think some of the attraction to card making is that card making doesn't require a long term commitment. We can whip up a card in an hour or so, fulfill our need to create and move on. I have recently learned the same can be achieved with one stroke painting.

As mentioned in earlier posts, I've been attending art classes at a small shop in my neighborhood. This is the product of the class. Nothing fancy and only took a few hours. That is to learn and to paint. Once you know how to do this, it can be done in thirty minutes or less. Gotta love that. To date I have painted a sunflower and a rose. I will be painting a hydrangea and iris next. Once I have learned several flowers, I am going to paint a flower garden. I am sooo excited!

Great is Thy Faithfulness

I recently purchased a few stamp sets from Our Daily Bread Designs. I just love that store. Kelly has created some wonderful stamp sets. One of her newest offerings is the Scripture Collection 1 and 2. This card is made using Scripture Collection 1. The paper is Basic Grey's Bittersweet. I used the Martha Stewart "twig" punch.

This verse makes me excited, just to know of God's faithfulness and that His mercys are new everyday. He knows we are flawed and subject to fall short of His glory, yet He provides new mercies everyday.

I cased this card design from SplitCoast, went back to find the name of the poster, went five pages in with 96 post on each page, didn't find it. If I find it, I'll edit this post to ensure proper credit is given. Also, the "Our Daily Bread Designs" gallery is awesome, every card is beautiful.

Now it is time for me to head outside. So glad I can, the weather has been wet and cold for weeks and I have been sick. Today, sunshine and blue skies and I am feeling a little better.

Creating paper from a napkin - more wisdom from Rebbecca

This card was created at a card club gathering, our hostess Rebbecca shared this technique with us.

Who would have thought of creating beautiful paper using a napkin? Well that is one of the projects Rebbecca shared with us. It is truly lovely. We used Pearl-X paints that really adds pop and bling.

How was it done you ask... The napkin was unfolded with bumpy side up, painted with flexible black acrylic paint. While drying, I mixed four different shades of Pearl-X powdered metallic paints (just a measured smidgen) with a bonding medium. In one of the vials, I added glitter. Once the painted napkin dried, I took a baby wipe cut it into four pieces, then dabbed the colors onto the napkin. Allowed that to dry, then turned the painted image down on a table then added a peel and stick paper adhesive to the back side of the painted napkin. Cut out the newly made paper and added it as accent paper to this lovely card.

Did not paint the stamped image as it would take the focus off the paper.

It was a little work and took a while, but the effect is dramatic. I like it.

Technique - Making paper black shiny cardstock and Pearl X

I recently attended a card club as a guest. The person hosting was the most graceful Rebbecca. The evening was a coffee/tea theme and each attendant brought a card for each person there. Wow, I loved that part, I acquired a stack of nine awesome cards. But the best part of the evening was meeting these lovely people and having fellowship. You know when you meet people that love paper crafting, you can ease into smooth free flowing conversations in a second...and we did.

Back to Rebbecca, it was her turn to host the evening, meaning she brought a few projects for us to do. We used Pearl-X paints to create a metallic background. It really was easy, we mixed the paint with Jacquard Finest Grade of Pure High Gloss Clear Copolymer - a brand of varnish. Stirred the mixture then poured the paint on shiny black cardstock, rubbed another piece of the cardstock with the first piece..had to move quickly or the two papers would bond, then came up with this.

I could envision this being used on a Christmas card with the one star or as a backdrop for the wise men. Just thinking out loud.

Sunflowers

I attended another art class, this time to learn one-stroke painting. It is fun and easy and with some practice could really lead to creating some very pretty art. I am thinking flower pots and ceramics mostly. This really wasn't difficult to do considering the class took two hours and I had never painted one-stroke before. Again, I feel if you can tell it is supposed to be a flower, I am ahead of the game. I expect to expand on the painting possibilites and am excited to see where I go with it.

Ever Buy Inspiration?

I have. Cardmaker has a card kit club that I recently joined. The first kit is sold at a substantial discount, so not much to lose if you don't like the kit and you can quit at any time. I thought I would give it a go. This is what I received in the first kit....

I like it. The kit has enough materials for ten cards. I only made three (one I sent to my dear husband). There are a few items in these cards that stood out for me, one is on the love card, note the window...that is approximately 30 small pieces of folded paper. I've never quilted paper before, the photo doesn't show this well, but the effect is very nice. As for both cards, I loved the use of hot wax and stamps. You melt the wax then press your stamp into the wax for a very nice touch. I also liked the use of windows. I received a box of window cards and was at a complete loss of how to use them, now I have some ideas.

I also learned, you should handle black cardstock minimally as it does show fingerprints and smudges in certain light. I liked the use of black, tan, and white papers with large red brads, really looks elegant.

Synopsis....worth it. Especially for the use of new techniques. I just received my new kit, it is all birthday cards, some of the highlighted techniques are the use of pop ups and an explosion insert (whatever that is). Wish me luck!

Little girls love Tinkerbell

Time for Tea

I will be attending a coffee/tea card workshop and swap. I was tasked with making ten cards to go with the theme, thank goodness my friend Michelle came by to help get me moving. I just couldn't make up my mind what to do. This is ultimately what I ended up with...lots of bling.

I used SU's scalloped punch and Top Note die cut. The scalloped oval is from Nestabilities. The paper is Cloud9Design Palace Walls - Green sparkle cardstock purchased from JoAnn's. The pink is SU's Pink Pirouette. The blue is generic basic blue from Joann's. I bought the butterfly brad and jewels from Archiver's and cannot recall who made them. The image was painted using glitter pens. Ribbon is generic and came from Cord Camera.

Listen Honey

I love Emerson Quillen's stamps, they can be found at American Arts Stamps. He is an Indiana artist and produces whimsical stamps that are loaded with encouragement. This card was created using Cloud 9 Design "Pixie Dust - Green 2-sided and SU's River Rock cardstock. The blue strip is from my scrap drawer, the ribbons, flowers, and brads all came from Jo Ann fabric.

I just love the shoes. I stamped the shoes on River Rock paper, punched out with a circle punch, then layered on the designer paper, last layer was punched with SU's scalloped punch. I then used the layered scallop as a "sealer" for the envelope.

Painting class

It has been a while since my last post, really have been very busy then under the weather. Still not feeling very well, residual weakness after being sick. Hope it doesn't take very long to rebound, I really need to be able to push through.

Several posts ago I mentioned attending a class at a quaint little shop called "That Cute Little Shop". It is located on Kentucky Avenue, owned and operated by Terry. Terry is very talented and a patient instructor.

This is the first thing I've ever painted, so be kind....ta da! This is a canvas with an acrylic painted cardinal. I think I'm ahead of the game because you can actually tell it is a cardinal. The background was very difficult. I'm told it would have been easier to blend if we had used oil based paint, still worth the experience.

Hippity Hoppity Easter is on it's way...

I am proclaiming it...the weather is going to get warmer and spring will arrive on the wings of the red-winged blackbird. I know everyone says it is a sign of spring when you see the robin...but I think it is the red-winged blackbird that lets you know when spring has truly arrived.

Today I was "playing" with an origami box using paper from my stash. I came up with this....

The photo quality isn't very good, not sure why. The box is smaller than I was aiming for, however, I can change the dimensions of the paper and easily change the size of the box. The bottom portion of the box is made from a very high grade Bazil paper, it is actually too brittle for this purpose. I do love the paper though, it is a very soft 'banana' color. The top of the box is designer paper that I picked up last year, it is Far East's "Pocket Full of Turquoise". The photo doesn't display the bling on the floral paper, but it is there. The yellow ribbon is a Michael's dollar bin variety. The tag is from Making Memory's Garden Party. The candy...yummy Dove chocolates.

Hope to be posting more frequently as my schedule isn't quite as hectic.

Lot's of Valentine's

Oddly enough, the new SU catalog is out and I don't have one yet. Not to say one isn't on the way, I assure you it is, I'm waiting......

I will admit with some hesitation, I own a few stamp sets, SU and others, that haven't been touched. So I can wait for the catalog, in the meantime, I've been looking at it via a pdf file. I see a few nice additions and have already acquired most of the "I just can't live without" sets.

Papers used here and in earlier post is....
The floral paper (one of my absolute favorites and made in the USA) Anna Griffin. It doesn't have a name but has one of the most beautiful floral designs ever. You gotta look it up, really.
The stripe is from Wild Asparagus, and is called "Sisters", it is two sided, dark beautiful red on one side, coordinating stripe on the other. The dark red with a small starburst design is from The Paper Company and is called "Starburst Translucent". I've also used an EK Success heart shaped corner punch, a Marvy oval, and SU's scalloped punch. I also used shiny red card stock from Archiver's. The heart shape brad is generic and purchased last year. The ribbon came from Cord Camera.

The oval has been dry embossed with a Sizzik embossing folder. I also added a few elements from SU's Home Again Simply Scrapping kit.

I do need to start creating a few birthday cards, have a few special ones to make for a few VERY special people before this weekend.

Love is in the air!

I have been coming home from work and creating a card or so this week. I've used various materials, dotted sheer ribbon from Cord Camera, shiny card stock from Archiver's, DP from stash, etc. Really just miscellaneous materials that I have at home. I would like to note, the first card listed here is inspired by Michelle G. aka "Twisted Chick". This lady is extremely creative, amazing.

Now back to the miscellaneous materials...I have a real issue/problem....storage. I've only been doing this card making thing for a few years and never imagined how much real estate is needed to keep my treasures. My office is CRAMPED! I was able to purchase a paper organizer, which is grand. Cord Camera unfortunately closed several stores and as a result is selling some of the scrap booking inventory. This organizer is at least five foot tall, has approximately twenty drawers, each with the capacity to hold at least twenty five sheets of 12 X 12 paper. The shelf is in great condition...I am thinking I may need another.

Who knows, maybe I will get this under control.

Valentines - Bling 2009

I have a little time before calling it a night and decided to upload some Valentines I made this past weekend. My husband is an Air Reservist and one weekend a month he is away. While he was away on his last assignment, I decided to splurge in some "ME" time, clear my mind, and create cards. I did have a small break in my self indulgence and had a great lunch with my oldest son, what a treat. Creating cards, visiting with my son, and eating a nice meal. Life is good!

Of course, come Monday it was back to work, which has become pretty stressful in recent months. We have endured three layoffs and the atmosphere is tense. Additionally, the ones that are still blessed with steady employment must work harder and smarter to absorb the work left by our departed friends and colleagues. Overtime is required...lots of it.

My instincts (and current news reports) tell me this isn't over, not even close. I pray for healing for our great nation and justice for the victims of predatory lending. I pray for favor and blessings from the Lord.

I do have the blessed assurance from God, that no matter what happens, my steps are ordered by the Most High God and I am in the palm of His mighty hands. AHHHH, no place I'd rather be.

I've used many materials for these cards. Penny Black stickers, Basil, SU, and Archiver's cardstock. Lot's of Diamond Stickles. Some SU DP and some from my stack that heaven only knows what it is or where I bought it. Giga oval punches, heart corner punch, heart clear stamps from Archivers, gem stones, Doodle Bug Dazzle paper (oh how I love that bling), and heart shaped gems that are just too cute.

Doing Something New

I am a blog watcher....get lots of inspiration that way. I look at Kitty Carico's and Michelle Zindorf's blogs and really admire their techniques and notice the more they post...the better they get.

I have decided to attend Saturday morning art classes. Nothing fancy, just a lady with a shop down the street that teaches different methods to paint. I am sure this will reflect on my cards. Here are a few of the items that we will be creating in January.

Valentine - Grow Old With Me

I recently attended a Valentine class at Archiver's. The classes are a great inexpensive way to get a creativity boost, and I don't mind telling you I've been in a drought.

So I've been looking at magazines, SplitCoast, The Stamp Shack, and Two Peas for inspiration. I have several ideas. Then I went through my craft room, gathered materials, and started making a new Valentine card...my inspiration for this one...Martha Stewart. Of course I had to add bling and additional detail to this card.

Wow, 2008 left me with a few brutal blows...as you know my praying, stamping friend Glinda passed away. Her death wasn't expected, a loss that I feel is harder to process. She is with the Lord and I choose to focus on that fact. God speed Glinda.

Emersyn was admitted to Riley Children's hospital Christmas day, she was released January 2, 2009. She had para-influenza. She is doing much better and I thank God for that.

He is Jehovah Jirah....my provider. He provides peace when our hearts ache, healing when are sick, time to care for the family when mother's spend time in the hospital. He is so faithful and I am so appreciative.

Time to move forward and focus on life and living. So here is to a life well lived.

Holiday Blessings

I won't be posting for a few days, just wanted to reach out and extend a heartfelt Christmas blessing to everyone. I pray God's love and peace in your lives.

Today I lost my dear friend Glinda, she was ready for glory and I know she is at the feet of our risen King and I rejoice in that knowledge. Yet, I miss her.

Glinda leaving this earth during the celebration of Christ's birth reminds me of why we are here. The Son of Man became flesh and was born in a lowly manger, He came to reconcile us to Him...so that when our time to leave this earth comes...we can live in eternity with Him. He loves us so very much and I love Him.

Thank you Lord for living amongst us, ultimately saving us so that we may also be at your feet someday. Praise be to your holy name.

Waterfall Christmas card

It has been a few weeks since my last post.

This one is for my friend Glinda....she is dear to me and is a wonderful friend...also she is my stamping buddy. We have a great time stamping, trying new papercrafting techniques, and just hanging out.

In recent weeks, Glinda has fallen ill, we are trusting the Lord to heal her.

Glinda is a loving, caring, and giving friend who exemplifies the love of Christ. I miss our long conversations where we discuss all kinds of topics. She is a rock for me...helps me stay grounded, focused on what is important and living a life pleasing to the Lord.

These are my small but heartfelt gifts for my friend...love you Glinda.

Photo Christmas Card

I just read a blog that went on and on about proper blog etiquette, not fun. Sounds like this person has a concern about her work being posted on other sites without permission. While I can understand it is reasonable and proper to ask permission....several lengthy paragraphs on the subject was a bit much.

So, instead of reading all of that....I decided to post a newly made Christmas card that utilizes a photo I snapped this summer. Easy peasy to make, fast, fun, and wonderful. My inspiration came from a card class I attended at Archiver's in Castleton. The stamps are from Hero Arts.

The photo...my husband Mark, and grandsons Elias and Ezera. That is Elias, the inquisitive one looking back.

Halloween Theme Invitations

I've been busy....traveled to South Bend for a meeting, attending grandchildren sporting events, and working. In the midst of all of that activity.... I managed to squeeze in a few cards. This is how I unwind and de-stress.

The attached are cards that I made as invitations to a Girl Scout gathering that my granddaughter Victoria and her mother are hosting. I posted a few of them because of the slight variations. The stamp set is from Gina K. The papers were in my stash and scraps...not sure where they came from. The scalloped circle that says "Ghoul Scouts Rule" is Stampin Up. I made the sentiment with MS Publisher. The ribbon was acquired at Cord Scrapbooking in the day. I also used Cutttlebug's "Boo to You" dry embossing folder.

On down is a couple of "sleepover" invitations I made for my grandson Joshua. I had all of the materials at home (I really need to use what I have before buying more, if you know what I mean...wink, wink!)

I don't know why...but I think Halloween cards are just too cute.

Halloween Cards

I love Halloween cards....not sure why except they are cute. I usually don't make Halloween cards and I have never sent a Halloween card to anyone.

I like how these turned out...the first card is made with Gina K's Haunted House stamp set. All papers, brads, etc. came from Archivers. No SU on this one.

The second card was stamped with SU's Halloween wheel. The background on both images were created using Tattered Angel's Glimmer Mist. The punched out bats were created with Martha Stewart's Halloween bat punch (I also use this on Batman items. I used a lot of Diamond Stickles on both cards.

Being a grandmother is a true blessing...unbelievable!

Grandchildren - They are so wonderful....as my friends know our family grew very quickly with Michael's children, Elias, Ezera, and Emersyn. Then Mark got married and we were blessed with Joshua and Victoria. We already had our sweet Garrett and Jessica, so we have been incredibly blessed.

Elias and Emersyn share a birthday, their mother and I sat together and made their invitations. Since the children share a birthday, there is one party with two separate themes. This is what we came up with...

Emersyn's birthday theme is "Strawberry Shortcake" and Elias chose "Power Rangers".

Now for their birthday cards....

I'll start with Elias.

Again I used Penny Black stickers, however, I also used Penny Black "Zoophabets" to create Elias's name. The stickers and stamps rock. The paper is a shimmery orange cardstock from Archiver's. The layered paper is from a Creative Memories set called "Rockin Rainbow", and I must say it really is rocking. The colors are vibrant, the non-designed paper has two colors on each side, one being very bold the other is a softer shade of the same color. I really like that.

The paper is pretty old, I'm sure of it..too bad it is really nice.

Meet Elias....just look at the smile on this child's face, isn't it wonderful to see kids enjoying their time? He is a treasure, we adore him.

Emersyn....this is her card, I was up until the wee hours of the morning working on this.

This image didn't turn out as I had hoped, but

Em's card is supposed to be a flower garden.

I used diamond stickles on the wings.

Now, I saved some of the best for last....look at my sunshine. She was laughing with such joy today. You will never know what a blessing that is to this grandma's heart.

One last vacation post - this one is for card lovers!

While at Pike's Place Market, Alice and Pastor slipped away and bought me a prize...and you know I do love prizes! Of course it was easy for them to give me the slip because my head was going back and forth like the fuzzy dog ornament in the back of my father's old pink Desota. (He really did have one, it really was pink, and he kept it parked under the Mimosa tree, which just so happens to have pink blooms.)

Just look at these beautiful cards! Aren't they awesome? I just love them and they will be a constant reminder of the great time we had in Washington with our lovely friends.

These cards are very unique, they were stamped by local Seattle artist, John Sollid. All of the designs are block printed with linoleum, wood, or metal in Seattle. The colors are vibrant and crisp, no smudges...very nice.

I would love to see the stamps used to make these cards.

Saturday - going home

Sometimes I just forget to share the coolest stuff! Flying into Portland we were fortunate to be seated on the side of the plane that provided a magnificant view of the mountains. We couldn't take photos because we had checked our cameras.

Believe me, we were not so silly coming back and once again we were blessed with an incredible view.

Thursday - We are sleepless in Seattle

Wow, we are really getting around in
the great Pacific Northwest...a few hours drive along beautifully scenic highways with noses to the windows and we find ourselves in Seattle.

The city is bustling with lots of activity. Pastor and Alice are a few hours from the best tourist attractions the Pacific Northwest has to offer, and oddly enough they go north, south, east, west. So we have been all around...literally.

THE SKY NEEDLE

You can't go to Seattle and not get a photo of the Sky Needle, so here it is.

PUGET SOUND

About Seattle, one of our first sites is Puget Sound. The real estate in this area is a little pricey...OK VERY pricey. Like cough, a million bucks. And these are not super fancy, pieces of property. In Indy the same would cost a fraction of this amount.

So here we are at Puget Sound with the Seattle city scape behind us.

SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE

Next stop....Sleepless in Seattle. The house boat Tom Hanks "lived" in is actually in a house boat community. I didn't know such a thing existed. I did not get a great photo of that particular house boat but did find this one with the beautiful entryway. This photo shows the water around the house.

LUNCH AT IVERS - HAVE I MENTIONED THAT ALICE HAS GOOD RESTAURANT RADAR?

On to lunch at Iver's, wonderful fresh seafood on the water front, yummy. Clam chowder to die for. And an audience...sea gulls as large as chickens. We are talking very well fed birds that love french fries and make it known to all that are in ear shot.

Truth is...I had fun feeding the birds as did Alice.
THE MARKET

On to downtown Seattle to the market. OK this was one serious bustling area, really people everywhere.

The market has many beautiful arts and crafts, but what really stood out to me is the flowers. The bouquets are huge, the flowers TOP grade and very vibrant, grown in the area and cost $5.00 a bunch. Win Win Win!!!

There are arrangements that cost more, like $10.00, but they are vast. My head was spinning at the endless row of beautiful flowers, delphiniums, dahlias, asters like I've never seen.

PIKE PLACE FISH COMPANY

At the market we visit the world famous Pike's Place Fish Company and with perfect timing we arrive for the noon time "show". Fish flying, people smiling, good time.

THE ORIGINAL STARBUCKS

We stuck our heads into the original Starbucks. Here you see their coffee bean pig. Not a great shot but it was suspended over my noggin in a very crowded room, my apologies, but this is as good as it gets.

Wednesday - Taking it easy

Wednesday - Slow down the pace...just a bit.

I had typed this up earlier and Blogger ate it, hope my memory serves me well. There is a slight rain and the temperature is mild, feels very good to me.

We don't have an agenda today, Pastor and Alice need to go to the church and work. While they are there, we tidy up the house a bit and do a little laundry.

We met with the Pastor, Alice, and several people from the church for lunch at Taco Time, a franchise operated by a family from the congregation. The food is yummy and all ingredients fresh. Here we met Rita who answers the phones while Pastor and his staff are in meetings each Wednesday. I have already met Ruth, the children's minister and terrific scrapbooker, and Diane, Pastor's administrative assistant and talented computer repair technician.

In the evening we have dinner at the church...this was most impressive. Every Wednesday, a few of the ladies cook up a nutritious meal, complete with dessert for $5.00. How convenient is that? We dined in the company of Barbara, a lady of seventy that is raising two great-grandchildren, Jesus please bless her. And we meet Cheryl and her husband, Cheryl is a stay at home grandma, her husband works in the timber business. Cheryl has a ministry called "Apples of Gold", here they teach the ladies what I would categorize as home economics, i.e., cooking and household tips. The ministry encourages women, especially young ladies (I would imagine) with household issues and duties. They also have recipe sharing, which really appeals to me. If I lived there, I would be attending this class, the fellowship/relationship opportunity here is exponential.

At 7:00 we are off to Bible Study. I am a little anxious, after all we are new and haven't been to Bible Study for a long time. Our schedule just doesn't allow it, so I am not only anxious, but also excited because Mark and I have an opportunity to study together. Here we meet Ann, she has five children. She and her husband both come from very large families, if I remember correctly she has eleven brothers and sisters, her husband has twelve. We meet Louise, her eyes sparkle with life. We also meet Rev. Thurman and his wife. I detect a gentle and loving spirit from them.

Class was led by Mac. Mac taught from 1 John, chapter 1. This passage tells us about Jesus and who he is...and it also tells us about redemption. Interesting thing is, Mac shared with us...a personal situation that had occurred in his life and how he needs and loves his church family. Here he is so transparent, it makes it effortless to relate to him and to draw closer. Mac touched my heart and I learned we both have empathy toward people that find themselves in dire straits due to bad choices. And it is here, the grace of Jesus comes through and our Redeemer gives His mercy.

At class we also met Robert, he is wonderful. I saw a childlike love and reverence for Jesus shine through Robert. He had his purple cross and his baseball cap with "MFJ" on the front, which he explains to me means "My Friend Jesus".

Mac talked about things he and Robert had done through out the week and it is during this conversation that I realize, Mac and Robert are friends and that Mac is there for Robert. He looks out for him, makes sure he can get around, is there if he has a need. Mac loves Robert...and Robert loves Mac. The dynamics of this friendship touched my heart and I pray they both have a long lasting deep friendship serving the Lord all their days.

This post is post Wednesday and I am back home. Since my return I have been listening to Pastor's series called "Home Improvement". This series directly addresses what is up with us...meaning you and me. What are the issues we deal with continually that concerns us...separates us from God? Pastor teaches us the scriptural responses to these real and pressing problems. Earlier in this post I said my schedule didn't allow for Bible Study with Mark...and it doesn't. BUT, that does not mean I can't reclaim my MARGIN and get into one myself. I have resolved to do just that!

It refreshed my soul to spend time with God loving people and I feel renewed, ready to pick up the cross and press through, just like Mac. Thank you brother for your testimony and keep on being transparent, your testimony is powerful and encouraging, it exemplifies the grace and mercy God has for us....just for the asking.

Mt. Saint Helens

Tuesday - Today Pastor and Alice are working at the church in the afternoon. Joel is preparing to leave for college. Mark and I will be exploring alone today. First Alice and I take Pastor to church, then we go to the grocery, rush back to the house and prepare food for a cookout. We had a delicious meal and was visited by a humming bird. Now to the mountain...

Mt. Saint Helen's is approximately 1.5 hours away. We travel up Highway 5 to Johnston's Pass. We see a sign that says "Blast Zone", then drive for many more miles up the pass. The area the explosion affected (destroyed) is vast. Everything beyond the "Blast Zone" sign is new growth since the volcano erupted in 1980. Hard to believe it was that long ago, seems like it happened only a few years back.

Mark and I spent the day on the mountain and were in absolute awe of the enormity of what occurred here and the beauty that has emerged since that time. Several new species of plants have emerged since the eruption.

Speaking of the eruption, the volcano didn't erupt as we may typically think...i.e., spewing up, then flowing down. Instead, there was an enormous side facing explosion that blew out the side of the mountain. There was an initial blast, followed by heated gases that were 1,500 degrees, followed by a rock and mud slide, then lava.

Since this event occurred in modern times, scientist have been able to gain much knowledge regarding this type of volcanic eruption.

The semi-circular lookout is inscribed with the names of those that perished that day.

There are trees on the top of surrounding mountain tops yet today that show the direction of the blast. They look like matchsticks.

While the mountain looks rather close, it is actually five miles from where we are standing.

You can see the indentation in the middle of the mountain where the cap is forming...and growing.

We hiked a while today, there was a slight breeze and the temperature was cool, which makes hiking comfortable. It felt good to get some much needed exercise.

Still vacating....Monday

Monday - Mark and are traveling with Pastor and Alice to the Pacific Ocean. Now I don't want to sound like a country bumpkin (no offense intended) but I've never seen it. Quite frankly, I'm excited to see the ocean and dip my feet in it. Considering I've never seen the ocean, I wasn't sure what to expect but let me tell you....words could not have prepared me. The photos will explain...kinda.

First we meandered through Astoria and saw this column, a tribute to Lewis and Clark. The inscriptions are very intricate and the column very beautiful.

Our trip continued along the Columbia River, as it become much wider, it is clear we are approaching the ocean. We arrive to an outlook where we took additional photos, one of a rock called "Haystack", it is a behemoth! This particular area is where several movies have been filmed, like Goonies and Kevin Costner's "The Guardian". The area is very beautiful.

We travel from "Haystack" to Cannon Beach, looked as the beautiful foliage and shops then went to Mo's ocean side restaurant for dinner. While sitting at the table and gazing at God's glorious creation,

I saw a splash out in the ocean. I wasn't sure what I was seeing, turns out it was a whale. The whale entertained us the entire time we were there! Odd thing, I was as excited as a child about this whale.

The sun has begun to set and we need to start heading back to Longview. Before our journey back we all agreed that it is essential to get photos of the sunset. Isn't it beautiful? I love the photo of Mark standing on the beach and looking out at the horizon in what appears to be awe of the magnificent sight before him.

So, do you wonder if I will ever quit blathering about our trip to the ocean? Or are you curious
...."Did she put her feet in the Pacific"? Well the answer is, you bet I did and it was COLD but delicious!

Still on vacation - Sunday

Day two...we have arrived and have settled at Pastor and Alice's home. Washington looks awesome, Pastor and Alice have a lovely home. God has blessed them abundantly.

It is raining...a light steady mist of a rainfall. I've heard only tourist use umbrellas here....ahem, perhaps I should put my bumper shoot away.

Today we will be attending Longview Church of God, they are having a guest speaker. His name is Gordon Mote. Mr. Mote is a very talented pianist and performs with Bill Gaither. He spends time in the recording studio with Rascal Flatts, good old Church of God boys. He has been playing piano since he was three, which is quite remarkable considering he was born blind. I strongly recommend you visit his site and support this wonderful man of God. One of his songs that I found especially moving is called "Wake Up Dancing". Mr. Mote's ministry is very powerful and his music...very profound, moving really.

After Sunday service....we went to a steak house and ate toooo much. Many people from the church were there, felt like old times and I loved it. Mark and I have met several people from the church. They are lovely people, it is an honor to be in their midst.

In the evening we attended services and were blessed to hear Pastor Fischer deliver the message. He preached from Revelation 5:1, about the Book of Redemption with seven seals. The book contains the story of man's fall through sin and rise through Christ Jesus. Only the lamb, the lion....the Holy One, who is in the center of the throne is worthy of breaking the seals and opening the book. He can do this because of who He is...the Lion of the tribe of Judea. Where He is...the right side of the Father, and what He does...redeems us.

The scrolls of our lives and hearts can only be opened by Him as well. He is our Lord and Creator at the right side of God, standing in the gap for our sins...our advocate and intercessor. Just typing this makes me praise Him!!!! Thank you Jesus!!!!

It makes my heart swell with complete love of Jesus just thinking of His grace and mercy. How He loves us. That He suffered the cross, the most painful and humiliating death to take away the sins of the world. A fact that is so hard to fathom...what all encompassing love, for you and me. WOW! Oh yes, He is very worthy of our trust, praise, worship, and love! All we need to do is trust Him to open the seals of our lives.

After the pleasure of hearing Pastor's sermon, (I can't emphasis what a true pleasure it was)several from the congregation met for dinner at Dairy Queen. I loved extending my church family and meeting other brothers and sisters in Christ. My family just keeps growing.

Pacific Northwest Vacation - Saturday We Arrive

We are still in the Pacific Northwest...and the visit is awesome. We have been traveling a lot and seeing MANY sites.

For instance.... Saturday we arrived in Portland and saw this....

And while the sights are wonderful...time with our friends, Pastor and Alice is what this trip is all about. They have a forever place in our hearts. It is a pleasure to see them.

After visiting the falls, we went to downtown Portland, very interesting downtown area, if you are ever there it is worth the trip to explore the town and shop the Bridge Market.

Vacation...it is a good thing

Hello! You will never guess where I am....yep I'm in Washington state. Flew into Portland Oregon this morning with my husband Mark, we were met at the airport by Pastor and Alice...explored Portland, saw beautiful sites and enjoyed the presence of our dear friends that we love so much. Ah, life is good and God's blessings are abundant.

Our flight was great, the sky and weather perfect. We saw Mt. Adams, Mt. Rainier, and Mt. St. Helen very clearly from our plane. We also saw a windmill farm from the sky...all of which was a first for both of us.

Had to pleasure of seeing Joel, he is such a wonderful young man. His smile melts my heart. There is something about Joel and Lauryn that is warm, loving, and endearing. They are precious. We met them while they were youngsters and have enjoyed watching them grow into beautiful young adults.

Portland is very interesting...the "MAX" (mass transit) in the downtown area is free. Unbelievable! Still trying to get my mind around that...free transportation in the downtown area, wow! We took the "MAX" into downtown Portland and saw the sights, visited an Italian festival and an arts fair, bought a few pretties.

We went to Multnomah Falls, Oregon and enjoyed God's handiwork. The waterfalls tumbled over the mountain, creating a fine mist that was set ablaze in a delightful multi-faceted prism of colors. Ferns are everywhere and lush moss clings to the trees. We enjoyed lunch at the waterfall with a cute little ground squirrel.

After our visit to Portland, we meandered into Washington. If interested....I'll post some photos of the first day of our vacation. I am sure Mark got some great shots of the falls.

Now about this card...I posted it because it is my birthday! I gave myself a birthday treat by going to see my friends...Happy Birthday to ME!

The card has crackle paint, then Basic Grey's paper. The flowers are cut out and place on dimensionals that vary in depth. Used some red stickles in the center of the flowers. This card was messy to make but fun at the same time. Now to figure out how to get it into an envelope. Wish me luck.

Let's Go Sailing

I made this card for my husband...I bought the SU set "Winds of Grace" especially for him. He loves sail boats, we used to have an 18 foot Hobie catamaran, the colors of the sail were the same as the sky in this card...it was beautiful. We competed in the Indianapolis State Park Games and placed second twice...really wanted to win but it wasn't to be. Back to the card....

I stamped the boat with VersaMark then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Punched out a 1 3/8 circle onto a Post It Note, stuck it where you see the sun. I used two Multi Color ink pads...the sky is Kaleidacolor Pastel, the water is Kaleidacolor Caribbean Sea. I brayered the sky first (with Post It Note in place). Placed a full sheet Post It Note on the newly brayered sky, then brayered the water. I layerd the image with Bazille paper, one is a pale yellow, navy blue, and a shimmery blue. Used SU HodgePodge and SU's beautiful but retired Bluebird grosgrain ribbon.

The inside sentiment reads, "The winds of grace are always blowing but is it ours to set the sails". That sentiment speaks to my heart, I really love it.

This card set me on a journey to find 6 X 6 envelopes....let me tell you now, they are at Archiver's....that little tip should save you bunches of time. I did find a template, but, it requires paper larger than 12 X 12, and well I don't have any. With that said, I did find a nifty site that tells you how to make your own envelopes...and I love it. My posts really don't show this, but I always decorate the inside of my cards and have matching envelopes that have been embellished.

This card has been cased....true. I saw it on Michelle Zindorf's blog and had to have it. And as my good fortune would have it...I had the SU stamp set....Touch of Nature, one of my absolute favorites. Also used the swirl stamp from SU's Doodle This set. Card stock is SU Chocolate Chip and off brand burgundy and tan. Ribbon is SU's satin burgundy ribbon, also used SU's ticket punch

My pal Glinda has a new toy...a Bind It All. As you can see, she has been playing. I love Glinda, she is a beautiful person, lots of fun, and has a loving and giving nature. Lucky for me...she calls me friend and as an added bonus...she makes pretties for me. And I can tell you I DO LOVE PRETTIES!

Glinda reads my blog and leaves encouraging words. She is very creative and makes beautiful cards and various paper crafts and you don't even want to know about her carrot cake....oh my, it is the BOMB! She is the best and I love her.

Back to the pretties....in this case a Post It Notes holder, isn't it de-lish? I just love this paper? I love what Glinda has done here, she is a very talented lady.

When Glinda made this, she had my little "Sweet Pea" Emersyn in mind.

Speaking of Emersyn....here is my introduction to you to my little angel.

Wow, we are experiencing the best weather ever in Indianapolis...it has been the bomb. Recently I attended the "Women Of Faith" conference with a couple of friends and it was wonderful. If you haven't been to downtown Indianapolis, you need to visit, it is a great town, not to big...not to small. Walking around downtown enjoying the conference and the city was a treat.

The conference was wonderful, great messages and testimonies as well as over the top music (Nicole C. Mullen, Sandy Patty, and Women of Faith). It is just a good time, I recommend it. Anita Renfro was there and provided she quirky humor and told me what I already knew...my problems are all because of my thyroid. And to think everyone thought it was hormones!

The card I'm sharing today is from SU, the image is from "Thoughts of Father" the paper came out of my scraps...so no name, but it is a muted shade of blue and a cocoa brown. The designer paper is Basic Grey's striped from the Mellow collection. The ribbon, Michael's dollar bin. Colored with pencils, the image took a little work due to the detail but I like it. Hope you do too.

My Garden

I had to share this....two long gorgeous rows of giant red cocks comb in our backyard (in front of our vegetable garden). I have always wanted to plant these flowers in front of the garden and this year I hit the mother load. They are breath taking, I wish you could see them in the early morning when the dew is wet on the ground and a faint mist is in the air with the sun shining through. It is awesome.

After the two rows of cocks comb, I have also planted a long row of giant zinnias. We have butterflies and humming birds buzzing around all the time. How glorious!

Time for some Orange and Penny Black

I would like to say, I'm done with Penny Black stickers...but that just isn't so. In addition to these beauties...I have stumbled upon "snowman" stickers. I will be playing with them soon.

More Penny Black - Yellow and Blue

OK, I went a little overboard with the Penny Black stickers...but they are soooo pretty. And easy to bling. I hope you like these...again, still playing with the "Tri-Fold" card. I love this color combination and again....used diamond stickles. The photo does not show a true representation of the bling and my camera is a little fuzzy.

Happy Birthday Joshua!!!! He is our little "Little League" champion, great basketball player, and soon to be Football superstar. That's our boy Joshua, the All American!

For his special day....a special card. Sports...you would think so...but no, I found some Penny Black stickers that are irresistible. High gloss card stock (Basil), gold, bronze, and black, with a splash of yellow. Again, this is a "Joy Tri-Fold" card. It has additional "bug" stickers inside with an sentiment that reads..."It's your birthday. I hope you laugh so hard, cake and ice cream come out your nose." Josh had a great time at his party, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he did have cake and ice cream coming out his nose.

I think Josh liked his Penny Black card....sports next year...Sport.

Flowers - Stickers - Penny Black

OK, I confess...I have been creating paper crafts and not sharing. Would blame it on being busy but the truth is...I'm busted. Just been playing and selfish. I did stumble upon something cool....Penny Black stickers. I never thought I would be a sticker kind of person, but here I am playing with diamond stickles and Penny Black stickers with glossy high quality "basil"? paper. Inside the cards are stamped butterflies and sentiments. Also, I used the die cut center at Archiver's and created matching envelopes for each card.

I have made a matching pink and gold box to contain these cards...nifty little gift don't you think? Each card is a "Joy Tri-Fold" card as recently published on Split Coast. Each card has a side embellishment that holds the flap down. I used lots of bling and layers to make these cards. They are pretty heavy. Hope you like. Will publish more soon.

Greetings!

It's been a while, been busy. I took a week off work and scrap booked everyday....no cards. I just felt like doing something different. I have attended a few cards classes, but those creations aren't my own.

This card was made for a friend at work for a little boy's birthday. The set is called "Little Boys" circa 2002. I really like this stamp set, it seems to epitomize the imagination of a little dude. I have two sons, and four grandsons. I can tell you there is no end to how they can play....young or not so young. I tried my hand at drawing one of "Kitty's" trees....not too hard. Not as good as hers, but a good start. The paper...SU's real red, brilliant blue, and whisper white, real red ribbon. Colored using prisma pencils.

It feels good to be posting again. I'll be in touch soon. If interested in seeing the scrap booking pages...let me know. I created one 8X8 book with Basic Grey's Boxer series paper. Created on 12 X 12 for my granddaughter, it is a Girl Scout themed book. Created an 8 X 8 birthday book using Basic Grey's "Cupcake" series paper. And I've added several pages to the Faith based scrapbook (class at Cord), Suzie is truly great!

More Father's Day

A dear friend sent me two images of this cute little boy, holding what appears to be a stressed out but very cute big footed squirmming frog. I thought them perfect for Father's Day Cards. I set to work and created the following cards for my grandsons to give to their father tomorrow. I think he will like them .

The image is called "Froggy Gift" and is from High Hopes Stamps. The whimsical image makes me smile.

Happy Father's Day all, especially to my husband who is a real father figure to our little ones (he knows what I mean), my sons, and my own dear departed father. May God bless you all!

Greetings! In the spirit of Father's Day, I have a few cards to share. One is from the retired SU stamp set called "When I Grow Up". This is a cute set that I have been laying to play with.

I created a background with Pastel Kaleidacolor ink. The image was stamped with Color Box Black, painted with watercolor pencils, then doodlebug sugar coating glitter...yellow, purple, and orange. Added pink gems. The paper is SU eggplant and teal. The coral paper came from my stash. Also used SU's photo punch to add a little more dimension to the card.

More owls....

Greetings!

Just a quick addition to my blog, I was playing with the Tattered Angels glimmer mist, Creme de Cocoa yesterday. I took a piece of glossy white and sprayed the glimmer mist onto the paper, and ended up with something a little darker than expected. Very nice color, but I thought it wasn't going to work with the owl card I had in mind. I actually considered scrapping (pardon the pun) the project but decided to go into what I call "recovery mode". In the end, I would go a little lighter on the white gel pen on the leaves, but the card is still OK. I used a Souffle 3-D opaque puffy ink pen on the owl's tummy and like the look and texture. I'm not sure what paper I used as I pulled it out of my scraps, but I think it is Close to Cocoa and Sage Shadow. The ribbon is called Textured Trios and comes from Michael's dollar ribbon bin. I love this ribbon and wish I had bought extra. I also added amber colored jewels from Doodle Design Inc.

Owls, I'm late but here they are!

I've noticed a huge influx of birds in stamping these days, that is great, I love birds and found an excuse to get a few. I bought GinaK's "owl always love you" set a few months ago and just got them out to play today. I love this set of stamps, the expression the owls display is too cute.

Now, how was it made... stamped the owls onto SU's white glossy cardstock, used Summer Sun, around the owls, then blended Tattered Angle's Creme de Chocolate Glitter mist with a cotton ball outside of the yellow, then used another cotton ball around the edges and applied Close to Coco. (Sounds like I need a candy bar with all of these chocolate references).

Painted the owls with Creamy Caramel, and Close to Cocoa, beak and feet...So Saffron . The leaves are Mellow Moss and Old Olive. I added white gel pen to the leaves and feet. Added a few brown eyelets with a Crop A Dial. The ribbon is a golden sheer sheen that I had in my stash.

Hope you like the card, I think it is loverly.

Faith based scrapbooking

Hello once again! I have done something new (for me)...I attended a scrapbooking class this weekend and created four scrapbooking pages (8 X 8). I didn't find it very difficult....what do you think?

This is my first attempt at scrapbooking. The papers used are Basic Grey's Mellow collection. Lots of earthtones. I can't believe I was actually sewing the buttons and green stitching (way not my thing), but I did and actually found it ok.
The word HOME is strips of left over paper, glued to plain chipboard and cut with large die-cuts. I really liked how they turned out. Next class will be six pages featuring family. Then we will create a cover page..and something else, can't remember what exactly. The lettering is a mix, some it from die cuts, the "My town" and "My street" are a chocolate brown felt material.

The "My town" sheet is very nice, we cut five 4 X 4 sheets of speckled paper, scored each at 3/4 inches, folded then staggered the papers on the longer green paper, then placed different colored tags on the underside. A wallet sized photo would be attached to the tag portion, and notes added below.

Class was held at Cord Camera and the design layouts are Susan's.

More horses - More braying

OK, I'm still trying to use a brayer and I tell you I am very heavy handed with the thing. I think there is something wrong with the brayer (lol). Anyway, this card is for another relative, I tell you I have a large family. This card is very similar to one I posted a few days ago, I just made a few changes, used SU's Mat Pack for faux stitching, and SU's Wanted set and Outlaw designer paper. The eyelets came from Michael's. The horses are stamped with Creamy Caramel, Close to Cocoa, and Chocolate Chip. The background is brayed with Regal Rose, Pretty in Pink, Groovy Gauva, and Blue Sky. Much of this card was inspired by a post on Michelle Zindorf's blog.

Well I have a long meeting early tomorrow morning, it is time to sign off.

So bright I gotta wear shades.

This card is VERY bright and lively. It is a thank you card that I made for a coworker. The stamp set is from Hero Arts. I don't see a name for the set on the packaging, but the set has the tree, squirrel, a bird, heart, flowers, branch, and several sentiments.

I stamped the images with Versafine Onyx Black ink, colored the images with various bright SU markers, used SU's Mat Pak to create the faux stitching. The grass is from Rubber Stampede. I used the "Thank You" Cuttlebug folder on the bright colorful designer paper. The yellow ribbon is SU's discontinued Maize grosgrain. All of the flowers on the tree have diamond stickles. Needless to say, the photo doesn't display the brightness of this card.

It is teacher appreciation time, and I have found such stamps to be in short supply. I did find My Favorite Things, Back To School mini set. A pretty good buy at $9.00. I must admit at first glance I wondered about the headless thing, but decided it was OK. I tried a few color variations, but stuck with the red, just seemed to fit. This card goes to my grandson's preschool teacher. He has excelled under her and is amazing us all. At four years, he can say the "Pledge of Alligence", it is a beautiful thing to hear and so very fitting this Memorial Day weekend. Not to brag or bore you too much, but his little three year old brother can say it too. All of the papers I used came from my scraps so I can't really name them. The embossing helped with the blackboard, I wondered how it would look if I had stamped white text to resemble chalk, I'm going to try that. Anyway, this is a first pass, and it is ok.

Horses for a dear grandson

I have been stamping up a storm the last few days. So glad to have the time, especiallly for this card because it is for someone so very dear to me. Graduation cards - one elegant and one colorful

Posting yet a few more graduation cards....both use the Northwood stamps mentioned in a previous post. I tried different papers and came up with totally different looks. One stamp has a million possibilities and they are so much fun.
I hope you like them....

The elegant card is on SU's gold scalloped paper, I used Ranger black glitter embossing powder and a 99 cent acrylic stamp to create the filigree background and gold embossing powder for the sentiment. Added a few stick on gold jewels and a black ribbon. The card is simple yet elegant.

The stripped card just emerged as I was sifting through pre-cut sheets of designer paper. The ribbon is SU, again the stamp is Northwood.

Next up is birthday and sympathy cards.

SU's Time For You

I have been making cards for a few hours today and decided to crack the case open on SU's "Time For You" set.

Really not much to say about the card, it kinda speaks for itself. I like to colors in the card and think they compliment each other. I noticed the ribbon twisted after posting the photo, dang. Used Versafine Onyx black ink, and SU's Halloween paper from last season along with InColor Wild Wasabi.

Fun to make, didn't take much time and I like the card. Can't get much better than that.

Graduation - Black, White, and Bling

Hello my imaginary friends....late again and I am making cards. Figure I may as well considering I can't sleep anyway. I am behind on my card making, I need to prepare several for occasions that are right around the corner. Tonight I made a graduation card for my niece....

Lots of heat embossing, using Ranger EB, Reminisce Hat Toss - Glitter and Congratulations Stripe designer paper. The sentiment is a wood mounted rubber stamp from Northwood Rubber called "Reach for the Moon". The small star and "2008" stamps are Northwood also. I really like their stamps and find them at Archivers and the Addicted to Rubber Stamps web site.

I have recently acquired some new stamps and will be posting something new soon. I'm thinking this weekend.

Back from vacation - Been to class

Greetings!

I'm back! My vacation in the mountains with the girls ended toooo soon! We had a great time, so good in fact, I took an extension and stayed in Tennessee just a little longer. Ahhhh, I would do it again...in a heartbeat. I saw cousins that I haven't seen since childhood, my mother and favorite aunt, sisters, nieces, it was great! Even though we live far apart, when we see each other we pick up where we left off, you know how it is when you are connected to people, time and distance doesn't matter.

Ah um, now back to reality...I am back in work mode and have been catching up. I did manage to squeeze in enough time to create a few new cards...to the right is a seed holder with decorated seed packets. This is a work in progress, but I thought I would share this project. The stamps are from My Favorite Things's "Can You Dig It" set. The paper is Bo Bunny, can't remember the name. I just dug the scraps out of my drawer and used it. This project was began specifically so I could play with border punches.

I also made these beauties. The paper used is Creative Memories from their "Note Worthy" collection. The design is not mine....the cards were designed by Brittney ??? at Cord Camera. I like her designs! Of course, I just had to add the bling.

I signed up for additional classes, two card making classes and two "Scrapbook your Faith" classes. I am looking forward to both.

As it so commonly is....again, it is very late.

I subscribe to Michelle Mzindorf's (Freedom in Creating) blog, if you haven't already discovered her blog there is a link on the side of this screen, she does fabulous work! I recommend you check it out. Using her guidance, I am attempting to use a brayer with limited success, however, I will say...I do see hope.

Star Spangled Summer?

Two posts in one day, wow, that is a first. I wanted to post a new card today. Had no plan when I began, just rummaged through my stamps and pulled out Penny Black's "Burst of Stars". This card turned out quite surprisingly, it looks kinda like an Independence Day card meets Ho Ho Ho. Not sure what to make of it....what do you think?

The image was stamped with black VersaFine Onyx Black ink, then embossed with clear embossing powder. Then the outer bloom was gone over with an embossing pen, then embossed with red embossing powder, the inner bloom was traced with an embossing pen then embossed with blue embossing powder, the streamers and stem were embossed with gold, the leaves were embossed with green. I tried a brayer, first time, so be gentle with me, used SU Wild Wasibi on the bottom, masked the green with a post-it, then used SU Sky Blue on the top. That is the image. I dug the designer paper out of my stash, the strip is daisyd's Sugarplum Stripe, yep Christmas paper, but it worked...kinda. The upper solid green is a generic paper I found at Michaels. I dry embossed the background with Cuttlebug's Birds and Swirls embossing folder. It is exactly what you may be thinking....an embossing frenzy.

Embellished with red brads. Nothing else here. Not one of my favorite cards...maybe things will look better AFTER the vacation! I can't wait.

I fly out in the morning, still haven't packed. Not really utilizing my time very well. I better get cracking....have a great weekend!

Ah, vacation in the horizon

I will be leaving for a chalet in the Great Smokey Mountains tomorrow. This is a long awaited vacation and will be spent with the "girls" from my family. We have managed to leave the men and children at home, I know you feel a slight twinge of envy...it is OK, totally understandable.

Yesterday in my yard I took a few minutes to capture a beautiful sight...just look. My dear sweet mother gave me this lilac bush several years ago. It is just outside my bedroom and right now with the windows open at night...I have to tell you it is delightful.

As if that isn't grand enough, take a look at this....our crabapple tree looks like heaven. We have a beautiful yard, this is what we enjoy most about our home. I may share photos of our garden soon. I have it planted, here is praying that we don't have any surprise frosts....in Indiana you just never know.

Flowers and Designer Paper

Greetings! I have two cards to share with you today, both are similar but use different colors schemes and designer paper.....I challenged myself by using three different types of designer paper on the pink card...not my strong suite, but I like it.

The stamp came from American Arts Stamps and is by Kym Bowles. I love flowers and really loved the stamp. I stamped the image with SU's Wild Wasabi InColor ink. The designer paper on the orange card is from a bag of scrap paper, the upper dp is from SU, the rest I found at Cord Camera and have long forgotten the name. All ribbon is from Michaels. The pink card is made with "be inspired" line from makingmemories.com, (purchased at Cord Camera also. I used Cuttlebugs "Swiss Dots" embossing folder....I love this folder. Just received the "Birds and Swirls and Perfectly Paisley" embossing folders from Cuttlebug and am anxious to use them. The inside sentiment for both cards is "Good friends are like the cream inside a twinkie....They stick together and last forever.

I am burning the midnight oil again....closing for a little sleep.

Yipee-yah-Ky-A Girlfriend

Hello! I hope you had a wonderful day!

Here I am....back so soon! Made it to bed at 2:00AM and was up again at 6:30AM. In case you wonder what would make someone stay up all night...I can tell you in one word - MENOPAUSE. Man, mother never told me about this. I am hot most of the time and experience insomnia frequently. This goes on for several days, then suddenly I crash and sleep for hours. I am looking forward to the day when I am back to normal...whatever that is.

I hadn't stamped for a week or so and decided to dig back in yesterday but my creative juices just wouldn't flow. So I pulled out a set of stamps and hit the Internet looking for a card I liked to make. I chose MFT's "Ride em Cowgirl". A variation of this card is on their gallery. This card required a little prep and quite a bit of cutting due to the layers. But at the end of the day, I really liked the end product. I didn't have the paisley designer paper, so I created the background from SU's Wanted set. To do this I stamped the paisley design and one of the small circular stars with Versamark then embossed with black embossing powder. When that was cooled (seconds) I stamped again with Versamark, then used white embossing powder. Really created that western look I wanted. More dumb luck as I just so happened to have red and black "Cowgirl" ribbon in my stash. And of course, I used two way glue and glitter on the center of her boots and the fringe of her skirt.

Each layer on the card is 1/4 inch different in size. Imagine is:
Bottom layer (white) 2 3/8 X 3 1/8
Black layer 2 2/8 X 3
Sky Blue layer 2 1/8 X 2 7/8
Red layer 2 X 2 6/8
Image 1 7/8 X 2 5/8

Back ground
Black 5 1/4 X 4 1/4
Blue 5 X 4

Paisley DP 2 1/2 X 2 6/8

Cut the small vertical strips 1/8 X 2 6/8

Tip....cut your paper before beginning the card, it makes this card much easier to make and a lot more fun.

Spumoni Birthday

Greetings! It is the wee hours of the "evening" or "morning" depending on how you look at it. Working again tomorrow...it will come early. And here I am....taking pictures of a card to post on my blog. Hmmm. Oh well, will be posting and then will turn in.

This card is for a friend. I recently bought the stamp from American Art Stamp and just love the image. I love their site and have acquired several of their stamps, it is worth checking out. The designer paper is Brooke paisley the be inspired line by Making Memories. The ribbon....Walmart, bought it for diaper cakes (girl) and thought it worked OK with the card. This card is a 5/5 X 5.5 card and has scalloped edges. I used a white Signo gel pen to "doodle" around the image. Used SU Soft Subtles lime green brads.

Sorry for the not so great photos, I am working on this. I have a great camera and take loads of photos, they come out great except when I take photos of cards in my office. Example, look at this beautiful photo. This photo was taken in my backyard this weekend, a gorgeous magnolia bloom. Looks great, crisp and clear. but my card photos look dark and slightly blurred. I'll figure it out. You can click the photo for a better view.

Spring and Bling

Hi again,

Funny I write this as if someone is reading my blog....oh well it is OK being out here alone. I am learning how to create and customize the blog site...I assure you it is going to change. And I love posting cards and having an online "diary" or collection of thoughts. It just relaxes me and believe me, my life is hectic enough...I need the distraction.

A while back a friend sent me a photo of the coolest box.... and to make it even better....it had bling. I had some dumb luck on my side, you know like the wind was at my back because, I just so happened to have recently acquired K& Company Bling pack. Very girlie paper, right down my alley. So I went to work and made boxes and cards....I know my friend got this from another blog out there somewhere, so again not an original but oh so much fun. Here it is.... (and my sincere thanks to that original blogger....out there somewhere).

The boxes were easy to make...and if anyone reads this and asks for the instructions...I'll gladly share. I found, hmmm, I mean had the coordinating stickers in my stash so I just had it made.

So...flowers and bling, just for spring.

Also, in honor of spring and me trying to figure out my new corner punch, blending, and how to use chalks...I pulled out another retired SU set...something toile...I'll update later with the real name. I had this set at the top of my pile because of a cute little bunny stamp I wanted to experiment with. But found the little girls too cute to pass up. I also created a bunny card while I was playing.

Off to the races

Wow, it has been a while since I last posted. There has been serious illness in the family, Mark my hubby is recovering from pneumonia....additionally working at an accounting firm during tax season presents other issues and SERIOUS demands on my time. It is almost over....have you filed yours yet?

Last weekend I pulled out an oldie...a retired SU set from 2002 called "To The Finish". I live in Indianapolis, so a race card is more than appropriate, especially this time of year. I stamped the card with black stazon and embossed with black Ranger powder. Then used an embossing pen and touched up any areas that needed the extra black embossing. Colored with Prism watercolor pencils. The photo doesn't show this very well, but the background is bright orange. Layers blues and orange cardstock (generic). I found a roll of ribbon that I thought looked like the pattern of the flags at the finish line of a race....bonus! The inside sentiment says "You are number one". Great little boy card.

Sorry about the fuzzy photos, I have a great camera (or thought I did), however, it gets fuzzy when taking card photos, odd don't you think? Probably a setting that I haven't changed.

Wedding Bell's Ringing

Not much to post today, but did want to touch base to let you know I'm still here and thinking cards, and pretty paper, and bling....stuff I love!

It has been a busy week and I have had some company in the evenings, so no card making since Monday. I thought I would share a cool card with you that I made earlier. I did not come up with the creative genius to make this card, no....I saw it on display at Archiver's and had to run home and try my hand at it.

So it is cased...but so very cool. It turned out very well....don't you think? I love it....Since I found this at Archiver's, there isn't one thing SU on the card...the stamp was on the shelf at the store, I first stamped the image with versamark then heat embossed with black. (Used a generic black embossing powder since I was experimenting, but SU and Ranger are great). I stamped the dress part of the stamp four more times, embossed, cut the layers from the bottom of the dress and then used mini dots to create elevated layers. The last layer (top) is the bow at the waist of the dress. Once the dress was assembled, I added two sided glue and sprinkled with very fine grade glitter. I created the "Happy Wedding Day" sentiment on my computer (couldn't find the stamp), turns out I didn't need it. I tend to be a very detailed person, so I had to decorate the envelope.You really can't see it here, but it all has bling.

Will be stamping tonight.

Here we go....Babies and Flowers

Greetings everyone, I just spent a lot of time in my stamping room, creating some pretties and thought I would share.

This weekend I had a baby shower to attend, and of course needed to create a card....btw, it is a girl. I began by making one pink card, ended up making four in total....one blue, one unisex, the last two for girls. I used SU's pretty in pink paper, bashful blue, and Cuttlebug''s baby embossing folder (the text came out so very clear) and the Big Shot machine. I hate to admit this, however, I don't recall the name of the stickers, but they are two dimensional and are adorable, I found them at Archievers. I stamped the backgroud where the sheep is with a small background stamp from SU's Announcements set. I am a bling kind of person, so there is shiny pink brands to sparkle the cards up. The inside sentiment is simple...it says "Welcome Baby" and is from SU's 'Short and Sweet" stamp set. I like the way these cards came out, and as always, the pictures don't do them justice.

My next card is from a the new level one Hostess Set's from SU, it is called "In The Garden". My stamping up pal and I have decided to send a mystery card to each other weekly. Turns out I'm not as fond of this card as I hoped to be, so not sure if I will be sending, but that was the purpose of creating the card. I used Pretty in Pink, Purely Pomegranate, and Basic Gray paper. Cut the image out of white cardstock. The card is 6 X 6, and now I am looking for an envelope template for the card. I am pretty good at finding stuff, and am sure I will have the envelope very soon.
